Dear Susan,

Thanksgiving. The beginning of the last home stretch of the year. Usually, it is the time when all of us wonder where another year has flown by.

Dictionary.com states the definition of Thanksgiving as a day set apart to give thanks to God. Being a business owner and parental primary caregiver, I continue to stand in awe of the abundant blessings and provisions the Lord has made in my life.

May we be thankful every day.

QuickBooks 2008

Is it worth the upgrade?
Getting The Most Out Of QuickBooks In Your Practice 2008

2008 QuickBooks is now available! There are minimal changes that affect professional practices, which is cost saving news if you are using QuickBooks 2007. However, if you are currently using QuickBooks 2006 or older, now is the time to upgrade.

2006 QuickBooks or Older Users. Significant changes have occurred over the past years that make QuickBooks easier to use, which always results in time savings. The primary reason to upgrade to 2008 is to keep current with your computer's operating system security enhancements and changes.

2007 QuickBooks Users. Instead of upgrading software, 2007 QuickBooks users need to focus on analyzing their existing QuickBooks. Is it preventing against embezzlement? Is your chart of accounts designed for tax accounting or for financial analysis? Can you easily understand what your production costs are compared to your percentage of income?

NEW 2008 QuickBooks Users. Prior to purchasing, verify your computer will meet or exceed QuickBooks' System Requirements. For optimal performance, you will need:
* 1.8GHz minimum
* 512 MB Memory minimum
* Windows XP or Windows Vista Operating Systems

NEW Getting The Most Out Of QuickBooks In Your Practice 2008 Book. In its tenth year of production, this new 2008 reference book continues to be the required reading of practices worldwide. This book provides step by step information needed to utilize QuickBooks in a professional practice. 65% technical and 35% practice management, this book's defining difference is not only the quality and necessity of the information it contains but the goal of the book itself.

My goal is to provide practices an easy to read technical book, with time saving ideas, so that the practice owners themselves understand the fruit of their hard work - financial reports generated for practice analysis.

From the eMail Bag: Personal Finances

Email: Dear Susan, I thought that you did a fantastic job with the class you taught at the Holiday Dental Conference. I had no....yes, that is "no" prior exposure to Quickbooks before your class...except for having heard of it.

You had students at all different levels in the class, obviously. And, you covered the material very well. I like how you think. You explained things clearly.

I work as an employee, and I would like to manage my personal finances on QuickBooks, so that it will make it easier to do my taxes, etc. and give the appropriate records to my accountants.Thanks again for teaching me a tool that should make my life easier. Blessings to you.

Reply: Blessings received! Thanks for the kudos. I absolutely love helping practices organize their finances in a practical simplified manner. Being an encourager at heart, your feedback means alot.

Yes, you can use QuickBooks to track your personal finances. Create a chart of accounts in a similar manner as the practices, organizing like minded accounts together. Having said that, however, I will tell you I use QuickBooks for business and Quicken for personal. Quicken is more geared for personal finances, with easy links to track investments.

Obviously, if you already own QuickBooks, you would not need to purchase Quicken. The choice is yours. QuickBooks does make it easy, simple, and uncomplicated.

'Tis The Season of Giving

Do you need a unique gift idea?
www.DentalGiggles.com may be your answer!

At the Holiday Conference, I met a group of gals who have started their own business and still work in a dental practice. They offer unique gifts and with the holiday's coming so quickly, it's nice to have more ideas for gift giving.

My apologies to the Veterinary, Chiropractic and Medical practices. I searched for a comparable offering but couldn't locate such a site. Maybe that will be the idea you start in 2009?

QuickBooks File Review

It's time to start thinking about the New Year? How does your QuickBooks look for 2007? Need an opinion on how it's working for you, or if it's not?

By appointment only, email Susan your QuickBooks Portable File. She will review your data, return a file review of the practice's current QuickBooks file, specifying errors, chart of accounts inadequacies, file weaknesses and include a prognosis on how to best correct the problems.

Abraham Lincoln during the Proclamation of National Fast Day, March 30, 1863 stated

"We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been preserved, these many years, in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth and power, as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own, intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us!"
